I always welcome offers of help and visits from family members! If you would like to help, let me know.
Agenda Books and Home Folders
I will send home agenda books and home folders every day. I will use these tools as a way to communicate with parents, let you know about upcoming events, and help organize your child’s paperwork. Please send in the agenda book and home folder on a daily basis.
Supplies
Thank you in advance for any and all supplies. The supply list that was sent home is appropriate. Some items are optional. The most important items for your child are:
pencils (24)
two folders (plain are fine)
a pencil box
a small box of crayons
two composition books
Snack
We will be eating snack around 10:00 a.m. as our lunch is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. I will talk more about this at Meet The Teacher night. You may either 1) send in snack for your child each day, 2) send in a box of healthy, non-perishable crackers or other snack to share, or 3) send in $2.00 a week and I will purchase snack for students. I prefer for students to take advantage of drinking water with snack, so save the juices for lunch. Students can bring in a water bottle to keep at their desk or make use of the water fountain.
Homework comes in a packet. The whole packet will come home on Monday, and is due on the following Friday. Homework can stay in the home folder during the week. As I stated previously, reading as a family is the most important part of the homework. In fact, if you have time for only one thing, please read for 10-15 minutes per night.
Homework will usually consist of:
A Reading Log. This is important. Please fill this in. Both reading to, and reading by your children is acceptable. For reading, you may include poems, books borrowed from school, books from reading programs, even the newspaper. Also, this year there will be a feature where students can read books online.
Words of the week. These will be introduced and practiced in class. They will be a variety of vocabulary words, sight words and phonics words. Students will practice these words in a variety of ways.
1-2 Math or Science pages. These will be related to activities in class, either review or extensions.
A Language Arts/Writing page. Usually a response to a book we have read in class.
I am flexible about homework. If you need the weekend to complete it, or your child is working hard and just not finishing, I am happy to adjust. Please just let me know.
