The Book of the Month page features fantastic books that I have read aloud in the classroom. These books are popular with the students and teach essential skills as well. Book of the Month books are available to borrow from the classroom library.
Chicka Chicka 123
Chicka Chicka 123, Written by Bill Martin, Jr. and Illustrated by Lois Ehlert, has been one of the students' favorite read alouds so far this year. Students love to count along and figure out what numbers come next. They can count by 10's, count backwards, and enjoy the rhyming.
By far, one of the students' favorite read aloud books of the year was Who is Melvin Bubble, by Nick Bruel.
Hysterically funny and well-illustrated, Who is Melvin Bubble asks the question, "Who is Melvin Bubble?" and answers it from the point of view of several different characters, from the typical to the obscure.
As a mentor text, this book teaches students to recognize different points of view, and how to write with humor and voice.
